Personal Protection in the Home

Length   8+ Hours

Course focuses on basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense.  Emphasis is given on personal defense strategies for defending you and your family in the home.  This course will cover defensive shooting and handgun skills, the importance of proper tactical cover and concealment, the mental concerns of self defense, levels of awareness and how they relate to situational control, and actual firearm training for a life-threatening confrontation. Legal aspects of self defense and strategies for close quarters engagement are taught. 


Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.

Students are required to pass a written exam and practical exam at the end of the course.

Students need to provide:

  • handgun
  • 4 magazines or speed loaders
  • outdoor weather gear
  • long pants
  • knee pads
  • solid footwear that is made for good movement
  • minimum of 100 rounds of ammunition
  • hearing protection
  • eye protection.   If you do not have hearing and eye protection, you can rent electronic hearing protection and eye protection for $5.

Cost of course is $100 per student.

Take Note

Classes are conducted in a desert environment.  Please bring hydration, sun screen, brimmed hat and sunglasses.  Regardless of the time of year, be cognizant of the Southern Nevada dry climate and the temperature changes that occur during the year.


NO LIVE AMMUNITION IS ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM AT ANY TIME!!!!!



Pre-Requisites

NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, a State CCW Permit, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
